Hi,
Loventis is web-based and runs on any device, including IPad. Let me know if I can help you any further.
Martin
We are currently using an excel spreadsheet to track our reservations, but i'd really like to scrap the front desk computer and the credit card machine and change to using squareup.com for credit cards, and ideally, an iPad compatible PMS. Is anyone using a similar system currently?

I am also interested in trying loventis but they seem to be avalilable on the cloud and no local client is avaliable. In a country with slower and unstable internet, it's hard to be a feasible option.
I am looking for a cloud-based service with a local client. In case if there is no internet, at least we can still update the pms locally without disturbing our check in and out procedures.

Hi Zomac,
yes, Loventis is cloud-based only.
The trick our users generally follow in regions where Internet connection is poor is to provide 2 independant internet connections. E.g. one normal connection and a mobile connection. If the normal connection goes down you can use the mobile connection.
Instead of a mobile connection via smartphone some users also use pre-paid surf USB sticks when the normal Internet connection is down. Then you can continue to work with the reception computer.
BTW:
Loventis manages your channels fully automatically even if your local Internet connection is down. Knowing this it is also possible to print or save the occupation table once per day to have a backup to bypass Internet downtimes. Your Availability on the channels won't be affected.
Kind regards,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Thanks for your explanations but frankly pms is too critical and any downtime (even a minute more) during the check in and out will easily cause dissatisfactions among the generally impatient customers.
I'd be more confident for an Evernote-like cloud based service which offers a client with a function of syncing data whenever possible.
To temporarily save the data of the day will mean extra manual works. And the staff may need to move all the offline data back to online and these two sources of data may potentially causes more mistakes which sometimes could be fatal (imagine if the staff let someone check in into a room occupied by a couple who is doing their private business).
I'll try the system to see how it works. But a client-based pms with a cloud-backup service sounds more secure.
P.s. In china mobile internet is quite expensive too. In a developing country, it's more likely that the telco is monopolized by the govt and it means more expensive. China 3G service is, let say, 5-6 times more expensive than the generally expensive city like Hong Kong .

Hi,
I just hope to share this with everyone about our iPad app. Our app is able to handle bookings without Internet access and the price that you need to pay is one time only (not recurring every month or year).
