desesperately need advices

ok so i've been running my hostel for 4 years already, started really young and pretty much all managment is paper based. Now 4 years later, im really into changing all of that mostly because im ready to hire staff (before it was just me, my business partner and some help from family)
I've been reading all of the blogs but im still lost with all those booking engines, pms, paymentsystem, integrated websites etc...
I need someone to explain it to me in a "hostelsoftware managment for dummies" kind of way. i know 4 years is a lot of time for me to still being so disorganized but as stated before, we started reaaally young and little experience and we are in southamerica and things here at least in ecuador usually work fine in the hand and paper style.. BUT.. NOw we are just starting to feel the need to change. we finally have the money to invest in this and we have grown a looot so we have the urge to do this due to the amount of reservations we get (no payment required) and of course the no shows we get (sometimes even 40% no shows.

Additionally there is a lot of good information here on HostelManagement.com throughout the blog and forum entries. IMO, you are in a great position to start fresh and make good choices. Whether you choose BananaDesk or not, you should select a modern, hosted PMS that is designed specifically for hostels. You can ask other hostels about what booking engines they prefer to work with, and they should be able to work with your channel management solution. You definitely want to host your own website, and whether you want to go to the trouble of making it e-commerce enabled may largely depend on the size of your hostel. Again, the best advice will come from other hostels, and the more opinions you can collect, the better decision you can make for your particular situation.
