My hostel has individual beds in a couple of shared rooms available for booking on Airbnb. Not a lot of traffic comes in to us from there, but we're happy when it does.
It's also a source of odd/unlikely requests at times. Friday afternoon we received a one-sentence request to have 7 people arrive on Monday to stay 20 nights. It's frustrating, at that point, that Airbnb blocks all direct communication, especially phone calls, until the reservation is confirmed and the guest has paid.
It would just be too easy for the guest to have seen that we're in a large 3-story house but not have read the listing to see they were signing up for a few beds, not the whole house.
I'm also concerned about possible scammers. Under the terms at Airbnb, once we've accepted a reservation, we're obligated to provide the services. Cancellations and/or changes can trigger penalties.
So, when I got the request from someone claiming to need 7 beds for 20 nights, starting in 72 hours, it sounded fishy. The guest said it would be for her and her employees, coming to our city to work and have retreat time. (What employer is planning a 20-day trip only 72 ours ahead?) It seems ripe for having an unknown group arrive and be disruptive, or complain to Airbnb and demand a severe rate reduction and refund.
I'm just curious whether others have run into anything similar... Thanks!
