We get our share of the 419ers - they're pretty obvious - the usual - wife of former Nigeriean dictator want to smuggle $50m dollars out of the country, you've won millions in a non-existant lottery etc etc. The ones that are more likely to catch hostels/ hotels out are ones that ask for accommodation usually well into the future and offer to pay well in excess of the fee with a credit card. They will then ask for western union transfer of the difference to pay the booking agent or something. Of course the card is stolen, so the payment is reversed by the bank, and you're left out of pocket for thousands. The one's we get are usually in pretty poor english, and request room types that we don't do, and just sound fishy. If you're in any doubt, search the name of the enquirer - it'll come up pretty soon if it's a scam, they use a limited number of names.
