Bunk Bed supplier

While on the topic of Ikea, has anyone got a track record with their bunk beds. We just installed a few but i'm not sure how durable they will be. Anyone?

I have complaints of the current model, called MYDAL. Those are just small pieces of wood glued together, which can't stand uneven pressure.

The previous model they made (TORDAL?) was pretty reliable, (plain wood, not bits) we had no problem with it since the past 5 years, only needs some varnish for protection and to keep it clean.

I don't really like metal beds because they creak and boing, while wood absorbs the noise. I guess next time we'll make custom built wooden bunks and probably rip off the plans from Ikea... :D

The IKEA bunks are very cheap and I see them everywhere in hostels. They seem to have one problem: I have seen a lot of broken upper bed guard-rails.

I don't know the model name of the bunk beds that we bought from Ikea and I don't see them on their website, but they're cheap steel units that I would never buy again. My big problem with them is that the top bunk is too low and the guests cannot sit up in the bottom bunk. Instead they have to hunch over in an awkeward uncomfortable position. I get a lot of complaints about them.

• metal frame (?)
• sit up on lower bunk
• guard rail on top bunk
• curtain track

If they're considering the most frequent suggestions, throw in:

• alarm clock/glasses shelf
• mounted reading lamps
• built-in power point for each bunk (maybe with a 10-foot cord coming out of one leg to plug it into the wall)
• padding where the ladder attaches to avoid squeeking
