Not sure where to post this so i'll start here.
Anyone have a great bunk bed supplier that has bunks with curtains and possibly lights built into them?
Apparently no one manufactures such things in the states and we'd like to do better than Ikea bunk beds.
While on the topic of Ikea, has anyone got a track record with their bunk beds. We just installed a few but i'm not sure how durable they will be. Anyone?

the ones in the photos from St. Christophers...do you know if they were custom built or if they had a supplier?
If someone made a bunk with all the items listed on the other postings.. I know we'd buy them...

I wonder if everyone submitted ideas for an ideal bunk bed design if we could submit the plans to Ikea (or another company) and see if they'll build it. There's a huge worldwide market for hostel bunk beds.
Ikea got back to me and said to send a full description and sketch or photo.
Are hostels interested in an improved Ikea bunk bed? Brainstorm ideas here and I'll send them...

WOW. I'm shocked. You could simply send them a copy of sleeptite's bed...
my ideal would be similar to theirs but without the 'kiddie' look of big rounded edges and bright blue.

Well done.
I would suggest that the ladder and rails be reversable, can be fitted to either side of the bed, to suit different room configurations.
If this is not practical, or if it increases the cost too much, then there should be the option for a left or right handed bunk.

They are custom-built by Sleeplite.
I´m impressed that IKEA responds to this. We once asked them to do a little PR together and they weren´t even interested.
Additions to Ria´s list:
- enough space between the lower and upper bunk so you can actually sit on the lower bunk.
- Matress measurements on the European continent are in centimeters, not inches. They would have to supply two different models...
- use wood, not steel. Please!!!

I'd vote for wood, wood and wood! Metal is loud, too hard for my head (especially if it's not tall enough) and gives me a jail feel! :D
