glimpse at wages for hostel staff

Hey this is my first time posting here. It has been good to read through the archives. I didn't see anything that could help me budget for the staff costs. What is a good general manager wage, cleaner, receptionist, (do we pay night reception different?), assistent manager wages? I know that throughout the world wages are different but just something to go on. There are websites that help me figure out differences in standard of living.

klaus - you still have to get of the car. im thinking something along the lines of homers ultimate lazy man chair - a recliner with built in toilet... but for a car! or if you just need to pee, dont pretend you've never peed into a bottle whilst driving before!

kapake - australia is pretty militant on drinking driving, but being able to order beer without having to leave your car (they even put it in the boot/trunk for you!) is truly a thing of beauty.

I don't know about Klaus but I prefer to get out and have a stretch... especially driving over few hundred kms. My record was 17hours from Budapest to Amsterdam though, overnight, we only stopped for petrol (and arrange the loo business meanwhile). The more I gotta go to the loo, the heavier my right feet is! :D Europe is not that deserted overall...

Although I can totally understand you, driving through the outback in 40°C would make you wanna drive faster to get there and cut most of the time wasted by stop overs. And if you drink so much to avoid dehydration, I bet it could take a lot of time! :D

I think that's the stubby holder - a stubby being a 375ml bottle of beer. The holders come in all shapes and sizes - most Australians are nearly pathological about keeping their beer cold. Probably due to the taste. The colder your VB is, they more numb your mouth is and the less you actually taste how bad it is.

That is indeed a Stubby holder. and Scotch... you're right - about teh VB anyway. we do have a few other much nicer beers (james boags, Cascade) but given that summer here gets over 40, keeping ANY drink cold is of vital importance - they also stop your hand from freezing if its straight out of teh esky.

theres quite a few different kinds of stubby holder too; the open top ones good for cans and bottles, zip up ones for taller bottles, some have handles so you cant drop your beer (can still spill it though), theres even one with a clear plastic strip down the side so you can see exactly how much beer you have left.

we concentrate on the important things back home. ;)
