'Hostels' is low on batteries so I will give a quick answer - yes!
Probably at Grünau, Austria; see page 3 of this thread.

UPDATE: Read more about Hostel Management Unconferences.
An "unconference" is like a conference, but participant-driven, low-budget, and informal. The agenda is typically unset.
What do people think about the idea to hold a HostelManagement.com Unconference in November or December?
An unconference is not a typical conference. There wouldn't be any one-way presentations. Hostel managers, employees, and others in the industry would get together for informal discussions and networking. It might be something like this forum, but in person. :)
I picture it as something like a "meetup" -- but the final form depends on what people are interested in.
The point would be to get people from the hostel industry in one place to exchange ideas.
If you are interested in this idea, please fill out the survey here and leave your thoughts.

If you are planning on attending the Unconference and would like a say in the organization of the event, please join this group and leave comments.
(Last chance to get your feedback in about how it is going to be organized.)
Thanks...
Grunau, Austria, December 4-6th.
Final registration information definitely coming this week. (I've been at another hostel conference in Canada.)

Great, now I need to choose between a new laptop and this unconference...
Grunau is a loooong way from Melbourne... but it would be ski season (just). What to do, what to do?

Netbooks are cheaper than regular laptops -- I've seen them for $250 in the USA. :D

That would have to be a one seriously top end laptop:), it must cost a bit to fly to Austria, stay a few days and then fly back to Melbourne.

Well, I am looking at a Macbook (stozza would be so proud). But yeah, a netbook would probably suffice - and given the state of the aussie dollar right now, buying one from the US would make a lot of sense.
If I cant make it, I wonder if some sort of webcam hookup would be possible... wouldnt be the same of course but at least id have some idea about what you'd all be prattling on about :P

If someone has a webcam... :)
I do, but the internet connection there is notoriously unreliable... and slow.
FYI:
If anyone is flying in to Munich, I will leave Wombats Munich on Friday 2pm with Plakian. Three more seats available. We could also pick up people at Salzburg airport on Friday afternoon.
I guess Aboriginal will drive from Budapest - he could also pick up people at Vienna airport or Linz airport - those are just next to the highway, so no big detour.

Hey I will see if I can get there. I am in the US now so I possibly could buy a couple laptops and take then there. But a bit of a risk to be doing that.
