That's incredible:
Chief executive Michael O'Leary told the BBC that the Dublin-based carrier was looking at maybe installing a "coin slot on the toilet door".
People don't want to be nickel & dimed...
Unbelievable!

Surely they could get more than a pound? I would have thought that if someone was really desperate in the middle of a 3 hour flight they'd be able to get up to 20 quid for the loo? Definite revenue stream there.

I heard the proposed Ryanair toilet fee is about $1.40 USD.
One response I saw online was "They can pay me NOT to lay a steamer on the floor. "
:D
I can just imagine what the flights will be like. People without exact change begging other passengers to break a 20 euro bill so they can use the bathroom...

I agree this is a weird thing and doesn't seem right. Everyone should have access to toilets without having to pay. But then when you pay 1€ for a flight plus taxes, should we really complain about paying a small fee for the toilet?

I'm wondering if it's just a crazy publicity stunt. Maybe Ryanair's philosophy is, "we don't care if people hate us because it creates media buzz -- people will keep buying our tickets because they're cheap."

I agree with this. O'Leary does it all the time.

When you pay 1€, it's more likely months ahead, as it's about 10% of the seats. It's more likely a convenience issue as what if I don't have exact change, what if it's urgent, etc. I haven't seen people using the loo as many times as it would actually make money for them, 5-10€ per flight is a ridiculously small amount comparing to passenger numbers.
I personally hate to use Ryanair. I rather paid 20EUR more for my Dublin flight and fly by Aerlingus where you don't have as many restrictions, people are friendlier and the hold luggage is 20kgs as opposed to Ryanair's 15. A bit ironic though because Ryanair holds almost 30% of shares of Aerlingus.
Regardless this media hype (which I think it is) Ryainair is rather infamous of hidden charges than being cheap. That Onion article fits this topic very much. IMHO.

When asked during an interview on BBC Television what would happen if a customer really had to go but didn't have correct change, O'Leary dismissed the scenario as implausible.
"I don't think there's anybody in history (who has) gone on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound," he said.
:D

My girlfriend said: "One pound for a penny? Is that how inflation goes nowadays?"
"I don't think there's anybody in history (who has) gone on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound," he said.
Well, I did. I bet many of you had the same situation on a flight...
I mean, I had credit card and Euros (only notes) on me, but never a 1 pound coin or a Euro...
Do they have license for cash back a card or exchange money? :D
Does this media hype worth it? I mean this scandal is definitely bad for their reputation...
The comments here speak for themselves...
EDIT: I found some additional info on Wikipedia, it's criticism has earned an entire chapter...
Also the whole thing is more likely a media hype according to this:
Ryanair's PR chief Steven McNamara later played down the idea, saying: "I don't think it's going to happen in the foreseeable future".
"Will it happen long-term, I'm not really sure," he said.
"It's one of those things that when Michael starts looking at something, you know, it's always up for discussion."
