More fake rallies -- similar to the photo from 2004 above:

Not all those people out waving campaign signs were eager volunteers pushing candidates they believed in Tuesday.
“This is just a job for me,” said Lamar Graham, one of four men holding anti-Obama signs at East Bay Drive and Belcher Road. “I’ve already put in my vote for Obama.”
Graham, 20, and the three others were day laborers with Able Body Labor, a temporary staffing agency headquartered in Largo and with an office in Clearwater. They were paid minimum wage to stand from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and hold the signs that encourage folks to vote for the Republican nominee John McCain.

Finally it's over! Obama won! :)
Amazing... After 2000 and 2004 I didn't think it would be possible.
An MSNBC commentator: "The world will never forget this moment... there was a before and an after."
Obama's speech:

OH YES - and I got up at 3am to watch history being made. At 6am, on the dot my time, the whole of the West Coast went blue - VICTORY.
At 6.30am a good conciliatory speech from McCain - the telling point being when he told the boo'ers to be quiet.
At 7.00am it was the turn of the victor, and what a great speech, not a dry eye in the house!
What a shame that he inherits a country in such an appalling mess. Whoever presides over the next 4 years has to make some very unpopular decisions.
What chances he gets another 4 years?

Well done, America.
But you can also look at it that way:
Black Man Given Nation's Worst Job
WASHINGTON—African-American man Barack Obama, 47, was given the least-desirable job in the entire country Tuesday when he was elected president of the United States of America. In his new high-stress, low-reward position, Obama will be charged with such tasks as completely overhauling the nation's broken-down economy, repairing the crumbling infrastructure, and generally having to please more than 300 million Americans and cater to their every whim on a daily basis. As part of his duties, the black man will have to spend four to eight years cleaning up the messes other people left behind. The job comes with such intense scrutiny and so certain a guarantee of failure that only one other person even bothered applying for it. Said scholar and activist Mark L. Denton, "It just goes to show you that, in this country, a black man still can't catch a break."

People here were literally screaming... cars honking... one of the strangest things I've ever seen was a hippie marching down an otherwise deserted street proudly waving an enormous American flag.

A Hippie with an American flag? That is strange! :D
Enjoy your victory, but stay alert. There may be a bad surprise just around the corner. Listen: the corrupt series-of-tubes guy from Alaska miracolously saved his senate seat, unless some still uncounted ballots turn the whole thing around. If he will be the winner, he probably will be expelled from the senate anyway. Guess who will run for (and win) that vacant seat? Sarah Palin, for sure. So: no TV show for her, she´ll get a much better stage. The Republicans have been overwhelmed this time, but they´re not gone. Obama will have to do some very unpopular stuff and Palin will be there in Washington right from the beginning to keep their idiotic base fired up until 2012 for her second try.
You´ll have your recount, absentee ballot count and bargaining over questionable ballots in Alaska this time, not in Florida. It seems a minor thing now, but it could turn out to be very important for 2012. Watch out.

I think a bad surprise is coming no matter who became President. At least there is someone more competent than Bush who will be in the White House.

I'm not sure Palin's career will take off, but who knows? She didn't even know that Africa was a continent - coming from FOX News:

Will the Republican Party be the same? Can their "base" compete with the Internet? Even the media is moving in a different direction -- Keith Olbermann has more viewers than Bill O'Reilly. I think the Republican Party will have to change to survive...

IMHO it could have a less impact on the economy if it's not Bush sitting there a year or two ago. Maybe someone could realize the situation earlier and would try to prevent it, unlike him. During his reign US lost her reputation both economically and diplomatically.
