Hostel in Spain.....But Where?????

Hi everyone.....

I am looking for some advice on where in spain a good place would be to open up a backpackers

i was thinking of seville....obviously Barcelona is one of the main places but also very expensive.
Do many backpackers/travellers go to the coast of spain,which areas?

Also do you have any advice on any other european countries that would be a good possibility.

grandcaneria sounds nice but i dont just want to attract 20-30's who are there just get pissed everynight.any other suggestions?

Have you heard of Valle Gran Rey, Gomera island? That would be 25-35´s getting stoned every night!
Actually it´s not THAT bad. Many serious hikers go there. Lots of Germans especially.

The problem with small(er) cities anywhere is that hardly anyone stays more than on night.

In France, I think Lyon, Grenoble, Bordeauc and Strasbourg could be interesting. There is already one in Strasbourg, but nil in the other three cities (AFAIK).

Yes, but not your classic backpacker clientele, that´s why I would say it´s a tad risky. You would certainly have to target other groups as well. I imagine Ibiza would work best because it´s still within reasonable ferry distance of Barcelona, where many many "real" backpackers go (but then who is a "real backpacker these days?).
I just love the Canary Islands, I have visited them all except for El Hierro, the smallest one. Some more than once. They all have their ugly beach resorts, but apart from these they´re all worth a visit. It´s just that most people who go there (including the young) don´t have hostels in their mind when they look for accomodation, so I imagine it would be quite hard to establish one.

sevilla would be my recommendation - its an amazing city and southern spain gets LOADS of backpackers. i was there a year or so ago and there was only 1 hostel - http://www.oasisseville.com/ i think is the website, good hostel too. the bureaucracy's gonna be a pain in the ass anywhere, especially in a foreign country.

but the others are definately right about the cities in france that dont have hostels (or enough). yes most people go to paris and the south coast - its important to remember that a lot of backpackers wont visit somewhere unless they have somewhere to stay. in this case, if lyon (for eg.) doesnt have a hostel it probably doesnt have many backpackers, but it COULD have a pretty big backpacker market if they had somewhere to stay. good ol' greenfield development and first mover advantage. but yeah, riskier.

i think the best thing is to find somewhere you'd be comfortable living, not just somewhere you think could be a good business idea. go check it out for yourself.

hi,well yea i was thinking more of western europe.mainly spain,i was hopeing for,but france is an option.do you have any ideas of other countries...id be very gratefull of the advice.

thanks for the advice.just got a question,what time of year do you remember being there as im wandering if you get backpackers all year round or some of the year?.i suppose a good thing about southern spain the the fact that its warm alot of the year.

France sounds interesting... I'm in Japan at the moment and I keep thinking that it would be a great spot for a hostel that caters to foreign backpackers. Not sure about the logistics though.

i was in sevilla in march and the hostel had opened up about 1 week before i got there - it was reasonably full, plenty going on. ive also been to granada just down the road in both march and september and both times it was jammed.
