Yes, of course. I have been in Krumlov, too - unfortunately only 4 days. I thought that would be enough for a small town (pop. 5000!). :)
The problem is that Europe is less and less a place where backpackers go just to roam about without planning every toilet visit months ahead. People like that go to Latin America or Southeast Asia since a long time.
I know the owner of YoHo in Salzburg very well - he says hardly anyone stays more than one night in his place.
I think backpackers visit more likely the cheaper or sort of unknown places, just like the mentioned continents above... Our backpackers have planned very unknown destinations of Eastern-Europe, such as Romania, Montenegro, Albania, etc. where the hostel industry is undeveloped, but it means cheaper budget and longer journey.
As my opinion, people stay in a city as long as there are things to explore. Our reception is concerned this fact, so our guests are fully informed about what to do in the city...
There are plenty of hostels forgetting how important if you can offer activities for your guests, so they can stay longer and get more good experience!
Unfortunately there are quite a lot of people who book their whole trip ahead, but thats because they can do it online and they want to feel secured...
I want the guidebook times back!!! :(
