I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hi! My name is Scott, a native Ohioan now working in Florida and having just returned from a holiday trip to Panama. While in Panama, my friends and I began seriously considering the possibility of opening a hostel somewhere in either Latin America or Asia (probably Thailand). We are so eager to begin living life on our terms abroad. It's a pleasure to meet like minded individuals.

There is one in a nice area of Memphis, but I do see a need of one in the downtown area, which continues to grow and has its attractions as well.

Thank you for having such a great website. :) We are in the process of opening a hostel in Washington, D.C., USA. The building that we are looking to buy is already a highest intensity commercial zoned building, so we do not have to gamble with the city on the zoning change which could take us about a year or so. However, since the last use of this building is the embassy, so we still need to get approved by the city for the use conversion from the embassy to an inn. The conversion process should take about 90-120 days. If everything is going smoothly, we could open our first hostel sometimes this year. (hopefully in August or September)
I have to admit we have no experience in the hostel business. My sister and I have been travelling to many hostels in Europe and Canada, and USA. I enjoy staying in the hostel, and like the idea of staying in an affordable accommodation in a prime location. We live and work in Washington, DC. where attracts a lot of visitors. However, there are not so many affordable accommodations here or at least in the nice area. So we hope that this project would work for us.
I probably have a lot of questions & would be appriciated for any advise & help. :D
