Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

That's true. Chattanooga is close to three big towns (Atlanta, Nashville, and Knoxville). It's a small city with more things to do per capita than any other city I'm aware of.

Might aswell introduce myself aswell. Found this site yesterday and I must say that it looks amazing, great and constructive posts and looks like you got a nice community going here, good job!
Alex Richter is the name from the southern part of Sweden. Restaurants has been my game for the last 10-15 years, everything from dishwasher, bartender, barsupervisor, bar manager, waiter, head waiter, assistant restaurant manager and Restaurant manager.
Been working everything from "the hole in the wall" to fine dining from meat market nightclubs to upscale cocktail bars. Even did my time as a Restaurant manager for one of the biggest fast food restaurants in Sweden.
Now I got my eyes set on opening a hostel, for starters in my Hometown in Sweden (Malmö) and I would love to get some pointers/advice from you all.
If I can help you out with something feel free to post me a line, if I can I will go out of the way to help you.
With kind regards
Alex Richter

2.12 a.m, the right time to introduce myself too...
I'm not a hostel manager, hope I can join even if i'm just a receptionist
My nickname has no meaning, just a non-existent word i use in some tennis boards...
I live and work in Florence,at the Plusflorence, we started ten months ago and have a very nice staff and manager to work with. This board in very interesting even if here in Italy we have some strange problems you probably don't have (register everything, even to make a copy of the passport to use internet for 5 minutes)
It's kind of funny reading suggestion for staff improvement as a receptionist :-)
Anyway, our manager listen to our suggestion a lot, so it's easier to be always interested in how the hostel can improve.
So, nice to meet you all.

I would be thrilled to hear suggestions for staff improvement directly from receptionists. Who better to tell me how to motivate them? Your input is most definitely welcome.
