At the moment there are over 30 new people signing up for the Forum every week, and it's probably going to reach 2500 registered users sometime next week. It would be great to hear 30 new introductions every week...

If you're new to the site, please take a few minutes to introduce yourself here :)

Do you work at a hostel? (you don't have to mention the name of a hostel if you prefer to remain anonymous)
How did you become interested in hostels?
Where are your favorite travel destinations? (and why)
Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up?

Hello forum members!

I'm Anna, and I've finally gotten around to introducing myself, after several weeks of poring avidly over this site.

Thanks so much to Hostels for creating this site in the first place. I can already tell that it will be an invaluable resource in the years to come.

Do you work at a hostel?

Not yet!

How did you become interested in hostels?
I traveled through Europe for a year after graduating from university, and I've been a huge fan of hosteling ever since. I recently made the exciting and terrifying decision to work towards owning and operating a hostel of my own.

Where are your favorite travel destinations? (and why)
Oy vey! What a question. Hard to pick favorites, but Prague and Cinque Terre (Italy) and Meteora (Greece) and New Zealand (all of it!) stick out in my mind as being particularly memorable and breathtakingly lovely.

Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up?
Nope, but I'd like to know!

Hello everyone,

My name is Lennox Honychurch and I am currently restoring an 18th century fortress on the Caribbean island of Dominica (do not confuse it with the Dominican Republic. We are the smaller island further south). We are converting the Troops Barracks into a forty-bed hostel and I am happy to see so many suggestions and ideas on this site that I can incorporate in the Fort Shirley Hostel.
We hope to be open for guests by Easter next year, 2011. We are located in the Cabrits National Park near to the sea and forest trails. It will be a very unusual hostel, located in a Caribbean fort with the flavour of 'Pirates of the Caribbean' some of which was actually filmed on Dominica.

Hello and Good Evening (From South Korea)!

I am currently in the process of gathering information to open up a hostel a year or two from now. I am so happy to have found this site and hope to learn from many of you.

I've had business experience in the past but not in hostel management/ownership. I have a year or two to do my research and decide where I would like to open a hostel.

I am a traveller myself and I have been to many hostels and some I have enjoyed. I've travelled in Europe, North America, and Asia. Feel free to share any information with me, I'm all ears!!

Greetings&salutations

My name is Daniel and i'm an alc...ups wrong forum ;)

In the recent months i have been brainstorming with the idea of opening a Hostel(bear in mind it's still in the brainstorming faze) so i started to look around the net for information and experiences from people who have already been there and done that.

I found this really helpfull site and have been a lurk on lurk off kind of a visitor here for some time.But as all lurk must come to an end i decided to introduce myself to the public(waits for ovations to die down).

A bit about myself i am 30 years young and have been working in IT for the last couple of years but my "career" is riddled with different jobs(deck hand on a fishing boat,security guard,fast food,waiter,etc..) while i am trying to find my niche so to speak.

Well enough from me for now time enough to start getting on your nerves in future posts,just wanted to say hello!

p.s.And remember Never eat yellow snow.

Hello to everyone,

I'm really glad I found this forum and that I'll have the chance to know more people in love with traveling and hostels, or addicted to one of the above ;) of course also learn from the others what they know best :D just as a hint, maybe as many others that post on this forum, I would like to open my own hostel someday, if not in my country, in another would be best :D

anyway...getting back to facts,

My name is Cristina, I live in Bucharest, Romania and I'm 25. i finished my studies (arts and philoosophy, also MA), tried several jobs from graphics to management and of course working in a hostel as a receptionist (the only job that suited me and alowed me to use all my skills including new skills to manage and run a hostel).
I have a lot of friends all over the world, since i attend a lot of workshops, traingings, youthexchanges etc. I love to travel and i practice karate.

my answers are:

* Do you work at a hostel? - I used to, for one year, in 2005
* How did you become interested in hostels? - I like to travel and meet now people, learn about their culture, this was the reason that gave me the job in 2005, after that I loved it, unfortunately one year after the hostel was closed
* Where are your favorite travel destinations? - Paris, London, Naples, Prague, Barcelona, because I love the atmosphere and the architecture of those cities, I have some friends there and I feel good going back there from time to time
* Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up? - near Mont Saint Michelle & Saint Malo
