Hi Anna,
It is great to mee someone who shares the similar prospects. I have also plans to open a hostel however I did not make my mind where to open it. But I think any city in France, Andalucia of Spain or Prague can be good alternatives. I am so serious about it.
If you have plans too, we can share ideas and talk bout it.

So glad to have discovered this website/ forum! I too have been on and off this site, seeking information and inspiration from those in the business. I have been considering opening a hostel for a few years now and have finally decided to take the plunge and start putting together a business plan and seriously gathering information and work experience. I look forward to getting to know hostel owners and workers on this site in the coming years, learning and sharing.
My name is Sarah. I am 35 and am currently exploring the possibility of owning and running a hostel. I have spent my time thus far working in a variety of different fields, from masonry and carpentry to hospitality and food and beverage management to gardening, while allowing plenty of time to travel and enjoy the world. I have a lot to learn about the business of running a hostel and look forward to the challenges it presents.
So - to the questions!
Do you work at a hostel? I have never worked in a hostel. I aim to find a few positions in the coming year where I can get a feel for the business and gain a greater knowledge of hostel management.
How did you become interested in hostels? While traveling, I have stayed in many a hostel and loved the experience and culture of it. I hope to be able to provide this experience for others.
Where are your favorite travel destinations? Love central america- Nicaragua and Panama and Costa Rica, the peopleareso kind and the lands so beautiful and diverse.
Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up? I know a great place, in need of a hostel- Portland, Maine!

I'm Perez, from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
I'm currently working in a hostel in São Paulo and previously worked in a hostel in Rio.
It's great to find this forum with fellow hostel workers and owners.
Opening a hostel in Rio is on my long term plans. As for short term plans (2011), I was thinking of backpacking around Europe and, of possible, getting some temporary jobs in hostels.

How did you become interested in hostels?
my friend in the neighborhood town has a hostel and my dream was to open a hotel, but it is rather expensive here - you need at least 3 mln dollars (the average salary is 300 dollars per month) that is why i have decided to correct a little my dream and the think about starting a hostel.
Where are your favorite travel destinations?
(and why) well Crimea is the best - that is the area of green towns, forests, lakes, desserts and so on. although i am in love with Georgia, Europe. i want to travel to every country in the world.
Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up?
