Hello everybody,
my name is Marieke. I am from Belgium.
Just recently my friend from Russia and I had the idea to start a hostel in POrtugal.
We can use any advice for that. Especially the financial part... We give ourselves one year to safe money and to go for it.
I hope this will be realistic!
Meanwhile I am trying to find a job in a youth hostel... ;)
Nice to meet you all!

Hi everyone!
It is so great to have found this website!
I'm Moondancer, 24 years old and living in the Netherlands. I have been in love with traveling and hostels since I can't remember when. And like many others here I want to open my very own hosel one day. I want it to be a surfhostel near one or more good surfspots. If I can get the money, I will go for it!

No I don't work in a hostel but I'm planning to try and find a job at a hostel after I finish my contract.
How did you become interested in hostels?
I've traveled a lot and almost always stayed in hostels. I realy like the atmosphere, meeting people from all over the world.
Where are your favorite travel destinations? (and why)
I love South-East Asia, but also Portugal. And I think that I would love South Afrika, New Zealand and many other places aswell.
Do you know of any good places where you think new hostels should be opened up?
I have some ideas about that, but I am keeping them for myself for now :-)

I am a retired public school teacher from New York City. (People can retire from teaching in New York at 55 years old---I did that.) At 57 I still hope to continue using hostels. I always dreamed of assisting the spread of Esperanto at hostels and was impressed that Josh/Adminstrator for Hostel Management was discussing this. I have hosted private individuals in my home (s) from some 30 countries.....and guided people from a dozen additional countries. I believe in international friendship. I have taken the main responsibilities at the small Esperanto Office of the United Nations, and participate in meetings there, almost daily. Hosteling remains a big pleasure for me. My last hostels were in Gotenburg/Goteborg and Oslo in Scandinavia, last summer. I've used and spoken Esperanto since I was a teenager. They are are perfect match for collaboration. The leading members of the Esperanto community all believe in what I have seen at Hostels: Face to Face contact between nonjudgmental individuals who share with each other bits of their cultures as well. Other pastimes are singing, guitar playing and fruit and vegetable gardening on my property in Florida, with the hope of hosting many people there in the future.

Hello! My name is Rene. I'm 22 and I'm from Estonia. I've lived in US for about 3 years. Moved back to Estonia when I got sick of it over there 2009. Right now I'm planning to travel somewhere south, to Spain for example and from Spain to Australia (I have a WH-Visa). I've worked in a hostel before and I can say that hostel job is the BEST job in the whole world. You will meet people from different cultures and so, it's like you are traveling by your self and whole environment is a stress free (unless something gets broken down). Right now I'm looking for a hostel job in Spain so you are free to give me hints :).

- Where are your favorite travel destinations? (and why) Africa and Latin America. Worked in Africa all my life. A love hate relationship really... Took a year off a few years back and traveled mostly through Latin America. Worked in Brazil for a few months and somehow life is telling me to go back and make a new start there.

Hi everybody,
Found out this site when researching for my future endeavor: opening a small hostel/pousada in Brazil. The plan is to move with my small family and make a new start there. I mostly worked in development but with have been managing my own business for the last few years. A tour operator. My plan is to start small but eventually give an all-inclusive service in many areas. Alas I do not have the money at the moment to start on my own, therefore looking for options :tickled_pink:
Looking forward to very enlightening and productive browsing sessions!
Monica
