I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

I don´t think so. I think they have identified you as a non-fool. Congrats to that. Good hostel managers are very hard to find, and if you find one within your staff it´s even better.
Does anyone know of a Hostel or Hostel chain that tries to hire from within? Hotel and Restaurant chains do this and it tends to produce better GM's and AGM's. I think it would also produce a better staff.

I think that in-house managers are definitely the best as they already know the place, the work and the rest of the staff

My name is Zezinho and I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was born and raise in the favela of Rocinha and I have interest to open a guest huse or hostel here in my favela.
Contrary to what people may know Rocinha receves over 200 turists a day to my comunity.
I know this because I am also a tour guide here and often receve requests from visitors to stay a few days in the comunity.
Its only a matter of time that this comes reality for me. It is my goal to help educate and break down barriers of discrimination that people in favelas suffer. But also create jobs in Rocinha too!
