Introduce Yourself

Hi,

I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hey Zezinho,

I just had a look at your website - what you do is fantastic. I have been in Rio, but not in any of the favelas. My ex has had friends in the Rocinha though, so I know it is not at all like the image most people have of favelas.

The idea of taking tourists around with people who actually live in the Rocinha is great. Setting up a guesthouse there could well work. I Imagine not everyone would want to stay there, but I´m sure there´ll be enough travellers who are interested in this sort of thing.

You would be surprised I get people all the time asking me about staying in the neighborhood..Rocinha is unique place in that we receve over 200 visitors a day and when I make tours usualy have at least one who asks about coming back to volunteer or just want to see what life is like. There is much culture, music and art here!

Many people have told me that they think it is a good idea..So I am going to try it..

Hey! Thanks. I have worked with Charlotte since her very first day in Plus Prague. She came from Plus Florence. At both of the places she did a fantastic job. Unfortunately she is not working for Plus Prague any more :(

Hi, I'm Melanie. I have a plan to open a hostel in Spokane, WA some day. Right now I am serving in the US military, so I have to wait until my commitment is up. But I am doing a lot of planning in the mean time!

This site is a treasure trove of information! Thanks already for what I've learned here. It's fantastic. :)

I am afraid I do not know the answer to this question. She might carry on working for PLUS or move further with her career.
