I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hi all.
I am a winter resident of BC, Canada providing snow cat access service to several mountain hostels. I am also a part-time custodian in my semi-retirement during peak ski season.
I am really pleased to have discovered this site as the independent operators need to have this kind of resource for masterminding and sharing their trials and successes.

I have been doing quite a bit of research about opening a hostel in a major North American City. I have been working with an architect, scanning the real estate listings, studying zoning and general laws, etc. I have also learned a ton from this forum, so just want to thank everyone here for sharing the info.

I have spent quite a bit of time backpacking myself, mostly around europe and Southern Africa, and have also worked in a couple of hostels here in Berlin.

Hello everyone or y'all - adapting to the locals :cool:
I moved from Munich, Germany (hallo Muenchen) to the 'Triangle' in NC, USA about 2 years ago. Being tired and fed up with the job market but much more always interested and ambitious I am just gonna do it- open a hostel!!! yeahhhh!!!
I have traveled quite some AND stayed in hostels. :D
I am familiar with the tourism/ catering/ service industry but never worked in a hotel or hostel. Nevertheless I feel comfortable with this adventure, ha.
Thanks to everyone who already provided me with tons of information on this forum - I'll still bombard you with questions and else (only nice things, of course) ;)
Currently I am looking at a fantastic opportunity IF I get the planning department to get me the zoning right (anyone else having difficulties with that? I already read that even in DC with existing hostels they still don't know what you are talking about...:confused:

Hi everyone,
I'm Luka from Zagreb, Croatia. I've been lurking on this forum and wiki for quite a few months now, and it's really a great site with lots of useful information's.
I'm looking to open a hostel in Zagreb somewhere this year. My project is still in an early phase, since I still haven't decided on the exact location though I have a few good prospects, and I haven't figured out all the budgeting yet, but hopefully I am getting there. Thx again for a great site :)
