Introduce yourself
Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hi there, I am very glad to join this forum where I have read a lot of invaluable information.
I am currently in the process of leasing a premises to operate a new hostel on the island of Malta. The process has already been challenging but also a lot of fun. It's a rather small place with 40 beds or so, and I am keen to know on what works best for the smaller places. The location is great, the finishing is of a rather high standard and the property itself is a converted townhouse with plenty of original features!
I'm looking forward to be here more often, read great threads and eventually share some of my experiences!
cheers

Hi,
I first took the plunge and went off backpacking by myself to Southern Africa when everyone else went off to University. Loved every minute of it, South America followed the next year and then a round-world trip the next. On that trip I met my now Canadian wife in Australia, we went back to South Africa-numerous places in Europe. We got married in Cuba, and just got back from Hawaii with our 11 month old son.
Our family was built when travelling, and its where our hearts our. We are gonna open a hostel in Central America. Driving around the North Shore in Hawaii, we asked ourselves why the hell are we living in Winnipeg-when there are so many more beautiful places in the world.
We dont want our children growing up in the North American culture. Buying things we dont need, with money we dont have to impress people we dont like !!
Owning and running a hostel-ticks all our boxes. If anyone has visited the Coffee Shack in Coffee Bay(South Africa)- that is my inspiration, I went there in 2001 and saw what they built in 5 years when I returned in 2006. Awesome place.
Cant get enough of this website, such a great tool and exactly what I was looking for.
Look forward to meeting people on this forum
Cheers
Ian
