Introduce yourself
Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

I'm very thankful to you, guys, who opened hostelmanagement.com - it is really incredible instruction for people who are new at this business! I've found a lot of interesting and couldn't go to sleep till 6am yesterday, because it was SO INTERESTING to read more and more information from your wiki!

Hello, I think hostels are unique and important as places to meet and stay. I grew up using hostels and through them met strangers of all ages and nationalities I would otherwise never have met. Also I met my wife. I wish to see as many hostels as there are hotels in the world, because self-catering kitchens rock!

Hello all! So happy to have found this site. I'm Megan and I'm currently working on opening a hostel in the birthplace of rock n roll, Memphis, TN. Very interested in speaking with other folks who have opened independent hostels in medium-sized cities in the US. I can already tell that there will be unique challenges (i.e. Me: "Hi, I'm opening a hostel!" Local Memphian: "Really. How will that work exactly?") So excited to be starting this project, and having this great forum to be a part of throughout the process!

Hi I love to travel and spent some of the most enjoyable periods of my life as a backpacker staying in hostels. Most memorable would be jims at the beach in LA and The banana bungalow in Miami, the latter was no longer there last time I looked.
I was interested in managing an opportunity but currently have a new family to support. Still there are still options.
I have a website that keeps me interested in travel while I work in IT, I wont risk posting a link as I dont want to get banned on my first try here. One forum I was looking at stuff for my baby and posted a link on a baby forum to show other and I got banned right away with no option of returning - not that I tried ! I hope this forum is ok with a certain amount of sharing as with twitter these days holding back on links doesn't really make sense.
Im lucky as my username is the same as my name here so you might like to follow me and I will most likely follow back.
I think this is going to be a rare forum for me one that I am actually interested in reading and returning not just looking for info then im gone, so please ping a PM if you want to share your hostel with me.
Nice to meet you all.

Hello all!
My name is Dale and I'm exploring the possibility of creating a hostel here in North Carolina, USA. I have an older house that could be converted into a 20 bed hostel. While the location is relatively remote it is within a 1 hour drive of a major metropolitan area and is emerging as an outdoor recreation destination with mountain biking, road cycling, rock climbing, backpacking, and canoeing/kayaking. The property itself includes a 1 acre pond stocked with blue gill and large mouth bass, a chicken coop, dairy goat facilities and a developed, natural spring.
My background with hostels is really limited but in the process of trying to figure out what to do with a beautiful house that we're having a hard time selling in this market I stumbled onto the idea of converting it into a green hostel. I have three partners who are interested in getting involved.
Right now I'm crunching numbers and trying to nail down the feasibility of the project. Building renovation will be significant as well as working around onsite waste management.
I'm here to learn more before we decide whether or not to commit to the project. Looking forward to learning more about hostels and hostel management!
Dale
