Hi,

I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hi My name is Adam. After spending over 900 nights in party hostels around the world, I'm opening my first hostel in Verzcruz Mexico in (hopefully) 4 weeks.

It is tentatively named 'Hostel Trough' and I'm the sole owner.

I've leased a large mansion for 10 years with an option to buy at the end. I'm meeting with the architect next week so I am particularly interested in feedback about the design and operations. ie. where should I have storage cupboards, how should I place security doors etc.

I am doing a middle eastern theme with a kabana on the roof. I have the latest design in bunks with the rolling lockers and curtains.

Great to finally find an online resource.

Hi Tarik, I stayed in the top 2 hostels in Istanbul about 4 months ago and I couldn't believe how shit they were!!

You have your work cut out for you!

Thanks for the information:) But you should explain specificly which hostel was so disappointing and because of what? Maybe I could fulfill the expectations you had had..

Tarik, you should just read the reviews on hostelworld. My problem was that the bar closed at 12pm and couldn't buy drinks afterwards. Also the layout was terrible, lots of little tables. Should be one or two huge tables.

I ve noted the huge tables that gather people and help them enjoy together. You are right about this.

Hi guys im opening my hostel in Veracruz, Mexico in 7 weeks. Can any of you recommend bunks?? I'm especially interested in the ones with lockers built in and curtain rails??

Would love to benefit from your experience without making the same mistakes!
