Introduce Yourself

Hi,

I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hello to everyone,

We are a couple from the Netherlands and love travelling. We’ve been together for seven years now and recently we’ve decided that we should get some experience managing a hostel. We both enjoy surfing and really like living close to the beach. Our recent travels have been to Central America (Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala) and Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia). We love traveling but we’re now ready for a place where we can stay, work and live!

Both of us got plenty of experience in hospitality. Pauline worked at several bars and restaurants and recently she worked as a floor manager at a beach bar in the Netherlands. She speaks Dutch, French, Spanish, English and little German. I’ve also got a lot of experience in hospitality, most recently by being a floor manager in a beach bar and running a lunchroom. I’ve worked both as a cook as well as a waiter. I speak English, German and a little French.

We are hoping to find some help getting a job through this website!

Hello everyone, Christmas greetings from snowy Lithuania!

My name is Laura. I have just joined the forum and hope to find here a lot of useful information and a job :)
My dream is to settle my own hostel one day. Meanwhile I would like to start out working in one and get some experience. This is going to be my second career. I used to be a lawyer and worked at different administrative positions for quite a period, and changed everything last year and went to Rhodes (Greece) to work in tourism.

That’s quite a change to go from being a lawyer to running a hostel. Definitely a good move. :)

Hello everyone,

I stumbled upon this website quite by chance (I was looking for some software for hostels) and am very happy to have found a place where ideas and support can be sought!!! (magic!)

I own/run a hostel and bar/restaurant with family in northern Italy. We have been open for 4 years (or is it 5? you tend to lose count :D !)

Many, many, many problems but I'm sure y'all know about that!

Anyhoo, I am really looking forward to making new friends and picking people's brains.

It's just nice to have found some support!

Hello to everybody .
My name is Yiannis or Johnn in english , i am a young man 24 years old from Athens/Greece.
I have been studying graphic designes two years and this year i am going to graduate.
I think working in a hostel abroad is awesome ,and very good experience for people like me who enjoy making new friends and comunicate with people for other countries .I would really love to work for some years of my life in a hostel.
This forum is very useful to find a job or how to build your own hostel :)

etna hostel

Hi All!!

I'm Carlo from Catania (Sicily).

I travelled a lot and I loved the life style you can find in a hostel, so I decided to open one in my city which is always full of overseas tourists, because of the volcano etna which let you do winter sports plus we have lots of beautiful beaches and Catania is also one of the most important Historical places in Italy.

In catania there are only 3 hostels, very often guests complain about them.

I will let you know about my new adventure and I will ask you some tips where is possible.

BACKPACKERS TV

Hey guys! Just thought we'd introduce ourselves... We're Jag, Mick and Lee... three travel loving dudes who a few years back, went on an epic one year adventure backpacking around Europe (staying at a bunch of amazing hostels along the way). We filmed the whole thing and turned it into a 26 episode TV series that has since screened in a bunch of countries around the world. The show is called BACKPACKERS and we've just launched it on DVD. We're hoping that hostels around the world will be interested in purchasing a copy and screening it to their guests. When we worked in hostels, the backpackers used to sit there all day and watch horrendous daytime television in a depressed coma... We know this series is something that the backpackers would genuinely enjoy and that they'd appreciate that their thoughtful and gracious hosts went to the trouble of organising some appropriate entertainment. Who knows, they might even leave some positive hostelworld/hostelbookers reviews about 'the awesome hostel that introduced them to that epic travel series!'. Anyways, enough blowing of our own trumpets... It's great to meet you guys!
