I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hey everyone.. im kris, 28yo male from australia...just signed up here and was looking for work pretty much anywhere, europe, the states, south america, been managing a pub in london for the past two years but visa is running out and looking for my next adventure!.... im still checking out the jobs section and was just wondering hoping that some one may need a hard worker or know someone.. thanks for any help guys, cheers!.. oh and how does it work with visas and everything?

Hi Kris, welcome to the site!
Generally with visas, you either need to already have a valid working visa (or a nationality that is accepted) or you need to find an employer who is willing to process the paperwork for you. It's a huge pain for the employer, especially in Europe. They have to offer the job to everyone in the EU first, and then show why you are more qualified that anyone else. It also involves some fees. I always used to offer to pay any fees required to get me my visa if the hostel would be willing to suffer through the paperwork for me. Some people get a government position as an English Assistant and have lots of spare time that they can spend working other jobs like hostels. Another option is to get a volunteer visa (maybe with an NGO or charitable organization) and perform your duties in a hostel. Some other people just work under the table.
