Hi,

I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hey all,

My name is Cait, i'm from Canada and i'm 21 years old. Just finishing up my last year of university studying recreation and international development, minoring in sustainable tourism. I've always been interested in working in tourism and have spent my last 2 summer's living abroad, last in Costa Rica and currently in Vietnam. I speak English and French fluently (ya, ya, i'm a good canadian, haha) and basic spanish (hoping to improve). Found this site as I was looking for some longer term international employment options and what better place to work than in a hostel! It's my favourite way to travel and i'd love to get involved!

Hi everyone,
first post, was looking for information about hostelworld.com
I am working at camping zeeburg in amsterdam. At the moment i have a special interest in revenue management and we are looking for ways how to make the low season more interesting for guests.
However there are more points of interest such as social media, how to attract specific groups, sutainability and ecology in your company.
Quite busy at the moment but hoping to have more time on my hands in september to explore different ideas

My name Guia from Spain.
I recently graduated with a degree in Administration in Barcelona and now, I am working on Hostel/Hotel/Resorts projects.

Hospitality industry has not been a focused in my curriculum, yet with the help of this forum and sources available online, I'll be to get sources and expand my knowledge.

Greeting to those who read this,

We are putting together a project to open hostels throughout China. The plan in now far enough along that I can reach out the the hostel community to gather more specific information and develop some meaningful relationships.

I would love to meet those of you who are having some success with your hostels, and I don't just mean financial. It would be even better if you are in Asia/China and can also guide me in this process, as this in a new endeavor.

Naturally we have many questions, so I won't bore you with posting them here but invite you to contact me and we can talk some.

I am also looking for people interested in being part of our project.

Hi Guys,

I am Irish and my husband is Romanian. Together we opened a hostel in Transylvania in Romania and ran it for 5 years. Tourism has been up year on year as more people discover Transylvania. However, we are moving back to Ireland for the kids to start school there and so we are selling the hostel. I advertised on hostelmanagement already but wonder if anyone can advise where else I can advertise as it is such a niche market. We have two stunning buildings which we won awards for best renovation and design in Romania and featured in interior design magzines and National Geographic Travel. We are number one in the Lonely Planet latest edition 2013. The hostel is in the old town, a few minutes from the big main square. It is a UNESCO city, really beautiful. We are selling under market price as we want a quick sale. It is just perfect for somebody and we need to leave and start our next project in Ireland so are really keen to sell soon. If anyone has any tips where else we could advertise it or how to reach our audience it would be great. It is a dream project for the right person and I just do not know how to get the word out there. Thanks everyone and thanks hostelmanagement over the years. I got 3 volunteers this year from advertising with you and it was great. Cheers and thanks

Thanks for the well wishes. Indeed our place is special. We spent 3 years renovating heritage buildings in the old town and even won awards for our renovations and became No 1 in the lonely planet, so it really is a good investment for someone and I hope we find the right person to take over this special place and we move on to our next project.....which is a secret until we get it ready!
