Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hello everyone.
Great site, forum, information. Thanks for doing this, guys!
I'm travelling quite a lot (for business and pleasure, mainly in Europe, UK) and I've stayed in London's hostels for about a year. Which is quite long I would say.
Not so long time ago I started to think about the idea of setting up a hostel (small, boutique-type), targeting interesting crowd, backpackers as well as flashpackers. I'm doing quite a lof of research, got a lot of ideas (I work with event management, marketing & PR) how to make it different - really not looking into opening "one more hostel".
Interested in exchanging ideas, information, networking. Also looking for partners preferably with experience in: travel blogging, hostel, property management.

Hi everyone,
I am an enthusiastic backpacker. After my studies, I took a gap year and travelled round the world to South America, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and India. I felt I needed and deserved this break before settling into a permanent job. Needless to say, my travel and volunteering experiences where unforgettable and life-changing. The aim was to explore cultures, people and places, to enrich and open my mind and try to find some answers, particularly regarding my future. I realized that my dream is to open my own hostel. Having stayed in countless hostels all over the world, I have a pretty clear idea of how a great hostel should be.
I recently started working for an energy company. I am enjoying my job for now, but I simply know, thanks to my travels, that it is not what I would like to do for the rest of my (active) life (if my boss reads this... I'm fired!). I see my current job as a good opportunity to start accumulating the financial resources I will need for my Hostel Project (the rest will come from the sale of my family's summer house). Of course, I am thinking in the medium-long term here as I do not plan to leave the job I just started any time soon, although I realize that the more time passes the more tempted I will be to settle down with my routine life and secure job.
I plan to start my Hostel Project in South America in around 2-3 years. Some may be wondering why I am posting this so early. By interacting with people in this forum, I will always be aware and remind myself of my real life plans so that any "settle down in the current job and forget about life dreams" thoughts are kept well away. I also believe in good planning and I would like to start brainstorming, exchanging ideas and importantly, to find a great business partner.
Peace,
Marco

My husband and I recently stayed at a hostel for the first time and found it very enjoyable. We have often thought of opening a bed and breakfast at some point in the future, but are now more interested in the hostel model. I joined this site to learn and get ideas. Donna

Hello to everyone,
It is Tarik from Istanbul. I work in an insurance company and will begin studying MBA next month. My plan for opening a hostel is growing mature and will hopefully come true in mid-term break of MBA, in January and February of 2013. I want to have real training in relatively silent winter and spring months and get ready for the high season that starts in May. Before this, I need some advice and advisors..
Here and now, I want to make an invitation/offer to the experienced and helpful hostelers of this site:
-Be my guest and stay in my hostel for 1-2 weeks in the preparation and opening period this winter. Help me with your suggestions, experiences and ideas you don't mind sharing. Stay in the dorm I will allocate for this "council" during whole your visit. We can create, design, eat, drink, sleep and enjoy the hostel and the attractions of Istanbul as a team. And of course, this group will always have free accomodation and hospitality in this lively hostel!
Please advise for improving this idea and putting this organization in practice.
Good luck to everybody for all the sincere hostel plans :)

Hi Donna and Tarik. Welcome to the site!
Tarik, I think your idea of inviting experienced hostelers to stay in your hostel and give you critiques and suggestions is fantastic! I hope they give you tons of good insight.
