I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

my name is Ron, I'm 29 years old and the founder of Real World Education - a free information page to help others achieve success.
I've traveled for three years non stop in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan and South Korea to learn how to become successful in life.
Back in 2007, I left for Australia after bidding my old life in Europe goodbye and my plan was to work and travel there as a backpacker for 12 months. It was the first time for me to stay in a hostel but I enjoyed this experience so much and it was fascinating for me to meet all the travelers from all over the world.
I’ve found a position as a laborer in a factory in Fremantle, Western Australia. It was around this time that I discovered a new BIG interest: BUSINESS and INVESTMENT. While traveling all across Australia, always staying in different hostels, I was also lucky enough to meet very successful people and entrepreneurs. The have inspired me a lot and this is how I managed it to travel the world for 3 years, financing my trip on the way.
In New Zealand I turned my passion for hostels into action by working as a manager in one of the most central hostels in Auckland for one year. This whole experience was the best thing in my life! Now I speak fluent 3 languages and basic Japanese, the list of international friends is growing and I have a vision to own my own hostel in New Zealand.
Everyone with similar goals for New Zealand is very welcome to contact me.

if you can cook you can offer a good breakfast for about $2 or less (cost of food) a person. if you want 20$ a person, say $25 with breakfast.

Hi Rich, (and everyone else). My name is Jason, I grew up in South Egremont, MA near Catamount Ski resort in the beautiful Berkshires. My parents took care of special needs people in the house I grew up in but that recently ended and the house is on the market to be sold, but no one seems interested in buying it and it would be great to keep it in the family. There are 4 bathrooms upstairs and 8 bedrooms. Downstairs there is an office, a nice living room looking out at the beautiful view, a fairly large dining room (also looking out at the view), a large kitchen with 6 burner range and two ovens and a large griddle. The house has a radiant heat masonry fireplace and is less than a mile from the Appalachian trail and 3 or so miles from Catamount ski resort. Do you think this would be feasible to turn into a hostel?

My name is Owen and firstly I want to say congratulations on this website, it is very helpful indeed. So I am really considering buying a hostel and its something which I have thought about for years.
I live in Ireland and I would like to buy/open a hostel in a good location in the sun preferably and which is close to a nice surf spot. I have several years experience in running business online, more specifically selling hotel rooms online so I think I would have a distinct advantage when it comes to this side of the business.
I am enjoying reading your stories and am open to all offers put on the table. I have some Spanish and am also very interested in improving this.

I'm in Portugal, which is small, and i have a house where i can just put 8 bunk beds... didn't thought about twin size. In a bedroom with 2 bunk beds you get 8 persons?
The tourism here runs around surf and golf that are 2 completely diferent targets. I believe we don't have many backpackers, but if in this area we don't have snow, we do have beaches, waves, rural area with some interesting trails... and besides, that we are considered the european Dinossaurs capital. It's even projected a Jurassic Park that must open next year (but with the crisis i don't know). What else? We have one of the 3 european brandys demarcated areas: Cognac, Armagnac and Aguardente da Lourinhã.For Americans i could add something... we have some arqueological and medieval monuments. I say americans because you have that all over Europe. Do you believe i can get a goog tax rating through this kind of websites?
