They are rolling out an API at the end of this month tat should get this integration moving in the right direction. The software has web-based "methods" for querying for availability, searching for a guest, creating a reservation, etc. They are going to provide as many of the same methods as makes sense in the API. Essentially, a 3rd party could write code that would query availability, create reservations, etc... provided of course that they are properly authenticated and allowed to do so by the account administrator. I guess it will be based upon how receptive these third-party booking companies are to ResEngine.
Here are some comments from the developers showing some "use cases":
--------------------------
Let's say someone wants to copy/paste an HTML or Flash "widget" onto their website that allows visitors to make reservations themselves. Again, ResEngine could provide this widget, or a template for it, but if a particular hostel has a way they want it to look or work, the API
would be just as open to them.
Let's say I want to have my guest list automatically update my account with . If ResEngine doesn't directly support my provider I could search for another ResEngine customer who has done it themselves, or I could get my web guy to do it (and in PHP if they want!).
Same goes for accounting/bookkeeping systems.
I hope this makes sense? It sorta makes the answer to ANY integration questions "yes if someone wants to do it" which is perhaps not the perfect answer but it sure beats no!
