Introduce yourself
Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

We have been reasonably successful over the years by any measurement but our drive is continuous improvement and bringing our guests awesome service and follow through. This site has always been a tremendous aid as we develop our vision and develop our current properties. We are innovative, nimble and responsive to change. Our core elements sustain us, our guests and our dreams and our vision guides us. We are looking to grow to new cities and buildings.
That's a nice lot of business buzzwords, but tells us nothing about what, where and who you are!

I was going to do a hostel description on another thread, but leary now... Let's try again. Well we have two hostels, currently, in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. Small hostel in London, Ontario and a larger one in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The London hostel was a building conversion and the Niagara hostel was a hostel purchase/conversion. Both hostels are doing ok with more potential (as I'm sure everyone thinks about their building and businesses). I'm a hands on owner. I like the business and all its elements, travel and hard work with fun being the driver and sustainer. (I also like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain)

Thank you. That's much clearer. Speaking for myself, I like talking about hostels, their benefits and problems; but I don't feel much value in talking about core elements and developing visions, which could equally well apply to an insurance company or a supermarket.
I wondered at first if you were the YHA, which used to be a society of enthusiasts who talked about hostels, dormitories and members' kitchens, but now is run by managements who talk about their 'properties' and 'locations' and advertise 'fine food in our restaurant'.

Hi there, people!
I'm Željko (pronounce it as: zheliyko) from Belgrade, Serbia, and about a month ago I started working in the newly opened hostel in the heart of the city. I'm totally new in the hostel story and I'm very interested in hostel management and all of its aspects. So far, this seems to be the perfect place to find the information I want.
See ya around :)

Hello!
My name is Joe Kent and i have previously worked at HI Nantucket for two summers and at the Bar Harbor hostel in Maine. I am currently looking for a job at a hostel in San Francisco or on the West Coast if things there don't work out. I have just returned from teaching in Hangzhou, China for several years and am getting used to my own culture again. Always willing to chat.

Hi everyone!
I stayed and worked at some Hostels in Europe and the United States and while I lived in New York for a couple of months, the idea of opening a Hostel there has grown in my head.
Hopefully I will be able to make this dream come true. I love music and art, so I want that to be a big part of the environment at the hostel.
Looking forward to meeting you and helping eachother!

Hello everybody,
Here is another new member to the forum. I've been traveling around around the world for about 10 years and have been thinking about opening a hostel for quite some time, and hopefully next year the dream comes true. :D I find this forum very helpful. Keep the discussion going!
