I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

What part of the UK are you from? I hail from there and have made Canada my home for many years now. I have just started working in a hostel after many years working on Whale Tour boats. I hope that you have as wonderful experience with Canada as i have had and continue to have.

Thank You, the main site we would like to wipe clean is Hostelz.com. There are a few others out there also. It is a shame that the old reviews don't just dissappear after a few months or even a season or two.!!

My name is Serene and I'm from San Francisco, CA. I have never worked in a hostel, but I stay at one whenever I travel. I am interested in finding work and learning about the hostel business. Perhaps one day I'll even open up my own with a partner. I would like to work outside the United States, though. My favorite part of the world is the Mediterranean, but I'm open to work at other locations. I'm glad I found this site on the internet. So much information and people seem very helpful!

I've stayed in hostels around the US and throughout Costa Rica and I'm a huge fan. Exploring how to start a hostel here in the Sierra foothills. There aren't any hostels anywhere nearby, but our little town has lots of world class events from music festivals to bike races. The nearby Yuba River is a great place to kayak in the spring or swim and sun all summer. The town itself is going green, aiming for complete sustainability. There are hundreds of CSA farms nearby, lots of interest in locally grown, small town agriculture.
I think a hostel would be perfect here. I'm heading to the city zoning department tomorrow to ask about restrictions. Then meeting with a realtor to look at a list of properties. I want to buy while the prices are down.
Thanks for having these pages and forum to help educate me. It's been a great day learning lots about how to run a good hostel. I've downloaded many resources and plan to get going the right way.

I'm 20-full-time student too..from TsingTao,China...I have no experience working at a hostel..but I know a little about that..and I'm planing tonow..I just want to know how it is in USA..

Kauai : I visited there some decades ago, we stayed in a motel which was not that pleasant, and then at the top of the park in a bungalow surrounded by hens that started crowing at 4am! We never managed to do the walk along the north shore, and the camping regulations were a bit impractical. We would certainly have welcomed a hostel then!
