HI,
Does anyone know how to remove old reviews. The hostel i am going to be working at is under new ownership and there are a few bad reviews out there from the previous ownership. Any help you can give would be appreciated.
Thank You.
Hi,
I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Hi to everyone! This is my first post. I found this site via Google search results and glad that the site and forum are very useful.
I am Benjamin from Singapore, changed to NZ citizenship in 2007, an owner and a manager of:
1) Racecourse Backpackers Hostel and
2) Shirley Ecolodge Hostel Accommodation
in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Have had some experience in the real estate industry - mainly residential property management.
Before operating the hostels mentioned above, I have travelled with my family to a number of backpacker hostels in New Zealand south island and have noticed many changes of how they operate since (number of years ago) then up to present - used to have a bed with pillow, heater, and the guest/traveller bring his/her own blanket/sleeping bag in the room(s). Last travelled to a backpackers/hostel/holiday park in 2005 during my school holidays with my family.
Cheers :),
Benjamin

Dawn, depending on which site the reviews were posted on they may disappear on their own in six months, (like HW) or they may stay there forever (like HB). If the entire team including the owner has changed, you might have some luck asking the review site to wipe your rating and reviews clean. *IF* you could convince the site to do that it would mean starting over from scratch with no reputation, but that seems fair since you're under new ownership and management.

Hi,
If the bad reviews are a problem I would consider changing the name of the establishment, as it may well have a bad name to get such bad reviews. As Brian said you might be able to get them removed from HW or HB, however in my experience if they are on tripadvisor then you may be stuck with them. Unless you change the name of the business

Hi,
From my experience as a traveller and a hostel manager, I do not really care about bad reviews and do not affect my decision making of finding and confirming places to stay. From my experience, free time and opinion, most or all of the bad reviews out there are posted by people who:
- are racist
- have nothing better to do
- find and post flaws about any property even though other things are fine
- post lies
- have not stayed at a property then post bad review(s) about 1 or more properties
- say that something does not work without even bothering to ask for assistance or trying to figure out themselves - e.g. TV, microwave, washing machine, clothes dryer, hot and cold water
Not everyone read/use/like websites like Tripadvisor.com, Hostelworld.com, Hostelbookers.com, Expedia.com, Venere.com, Hotels.com, Hostels.com.
I have never visited those kind of websites in the past prior to entering the hostelling/hospitality/tourism/travel industry and have always been satisfied with my holidays at various hotels, motels, backpackers, holiday parks I have stayed in by myself/with friends, relatives, family.
Wotif.com is one of my favourites and have bookmarked it in my web browser.

I started the Economy Hostel in Las Vegas inside a budget accommodations hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard. www.economyhostel.com
My vision for the Economy Hostel is to provide the world traveling youth a safe, clean, affordable alternative to the expensive casino resorts in Las Vegas, while also giving them a VIP experience.
The Economy Hostel's unique physical layout, activities and philosophical approach have been designed to offer youth from all over the world the opportunity to make new friendships, appreciate cultural similarities, and learn to respect their differences in a neutral environment. I believe this world's largest travel and tourism market source could become the world's first global peace industry; and that every young traveler has the potential to become an "Ambassador for Peace".

Hi all,
I'm Jessica and new to the site. I love staying at hostels and would love to start my own someday soon. I can see from the many posts I've read that there is a great deal of talent in this corner of the web.
If anyone has any sage advice for a newbie feel free to share.
Thanks and see you all on the web soon. :)
