I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

Sadly I won’t be on that end of Europe in October, or I would love to grab a beer and talk shop. Have a great trip though! Hopefully you’ll find some inspiration and take some new ideas back home to Byron Bay.

I know that advertising, promoting and hiring staff can become very costly for a small business, especially a fledgling hostel. Well because I'm a travel lover, I am creating a platform as an alternative that can save you thousands and will make you feel good while doing it! And quite simply it's by using enthusiastic volunteers.
Every year millions of budget travelers and backpackers spend countless hours trying to find a way to stretch their budget during their treks around the globe. What if in exchange for a few hours of volunteering at YOUR hostel a day, you simply offer that traveler free accommodation and maybe some food in return? I promise many travelers would JUMP at that opportunity.
You would be able to potentially save thousands of dollars like I said and simultaneously help out someone else in need.
My new organization, Helping Hand Global, is currently building a platform that can connect you the host directly with potential volunteers. Two questions you might have may be...
Q. - Will I be charged?
A. - As a host you will never be charged for using the platform. Any expense will occur on the traveler's side.
Q. - How can I trust that the volunteer will honor his/her agreement?
A. - Volunteers will have profiles as well where you can view their credentials and previous host reviews. The platform will have an easy to use messaging and application system allowing clear communication of your expectations and theirs. We also charge volunteers a fair fee when an exchange is confirmed. This will help ensure they are sincere in their desire of the exchange.

I'm Ewa and I have been working in hostels for some time now that I haven't even realized until this year how much I love it. So now I'm back in my city and I'm managing new, small hostel here in Poland. Since it's first time to manage for me I'm finding your website as a great help! I hope one day I will have possibility to open my dream hostel but for now I'm gaining experience of how to do it and I just want to spread in my city hostel movement :)

We have a new chairperson of An Óige in case anyone is interested. At 25 he is one of the youngest chairpersons of an Irish Youth organisation and of course, he is a keen hosteller.
