Hi,

I worked in hostels for many years and realized that there weren't many resources for people who run hostels or who want to open a hostel. I hope that you enjoy the site and find it useful. If you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please let me know. My goal is to create a resource that will promote hostels and hostelling, especially in places where hostelling is not as common (e.g., here in the USA). Post in this section to introduce yourself to the other forum users.

I am looking to open a hostel in St petersburg florida in about a one year. Ive lived there for 12 years and have seen the town grow into a desirable area for locals and internationals to live and travel. if you are interested in a partnership please email me. Currently there are no hostels in this area and st pete is more then ready for one or more. during my 12 years living there i have networked with many locals, including local business owners. i believe that my knowledge of the area and my connections will greatly help in the success of this hostel, along with local support. So far St pete artists have been changing the zoning rules and regulations with great success and while there is no zoning for such an establishment i think with a lil nudge it can be a reality. St pete wants artists to grow in their community and more tourism. I could do this by myself but would love to have a partner in this endeavor.

My name is Luis. We are starting a new hostel in Seville, Spain, within some months (exact date depending on bureaucracy). I've been following the website for the lasts months and find it extremely useful. I'm looking forward to get involved in the Hostel Management community!

Hello Everyone!

I too have looked at this site from time to time and found it very useful just like many of you who have posted on this thread. I have an MBA and want to help make travel more accessible to everyone. I currently live in Washington, D.C. and I especially want to help make traveling North America easier.I also am considering starting a podcast on hostels and hope to interview those who have had success and failure with their ventures later on. I look forward to adding advice when I can to these forums :glasses: !

Well, I see things go a bit slow here. Anyway, here is my introduction: Brazilian by birth, Irish as a second nationality, now working in the Netherlands in an airline call center, after doing the same job for 10 years in Ireland.

I have many, many questions about starting a hostel business, especially the business plan, how to make a living while the project is only on paper, getting funding, etc etc. Opening a hostel after retirement somewhere in my native country was always an idea, but things changed a little bit, especially with the way things are going there and also here in Western Europe, so instead of "something to think of when I'm close to retiring", this is starting to be more like "something to do now, that I'm fed up with my job and fed up living in Western Europe" (not gonna go into politics here).

My main goal here would be finding someone who can maybe eventually "mentor" me, especially from Poland, Slovakia, Czech, Hungary.

Hey All!

Aspiring hostel owner, current hostel professional here, background is originally fine dining/hotels, Canadian/UK citizen living in Ottawa!! Have a bit of money, a few different drafts of different business plans, have one that we're really gunning for to launch by Summer '17 in Ottawa! We're all pretty aware how hard opening any business is, so we're using all the resources we can...

The basic basic plan is to try and open a pop-up hostel concept, using a combination of flexible zoning, central location(s), AirBNB, and a few more tools to make startup costs and overhead minimal! Advice and networking always hugely appreciated!! This looks like an incredibly useful and important community!!

Hi all,

My partner and I are looking to buy an existing small/medium size hostel in Budapest next year and were wondering if there are any non-Hungarian citizens (preferably from the UK) who run/own a hostel in Budapest to give some advice, mainly on the legal side of things of starting a hostel there.

Hi there!

My name is Gemini, and I just typed out a really awesome and well-thought-out introduction to myself and our property and the interweb gremlins ate it making me a sad panda =(

The hostel I manage is in Reno, Nevada and is a membership-based hostel that follows the same ten principles that guide the Burning Man Event. The building was completed in 1931, and it has all the perks and foibles of being an old building =)

Currently, we have 14 themed art rooms, five bunk-style dorm rooms, and a third floor where longer term folks stay. Everyone who works at the hostel is a volunteer, currenly, with varying stages of free rent based on what they do.

I've learned what I have from working the front desk, volunteering, cleaning and paying attention. Have helped develop policies, train, clean, and count all the things. I have a full-time job at the University that is also close to the hostel. I do resource management and logistics, but have held a few different jobs including database administrator and event manager.

I am a perpetual student...of like, of learning, of experiences. I've stayed in hostels in San Francisco, Seatlle, Chicago and Inverness, Scotland.

Looking forward to participating and learning =)
