What kinds of systems does your hostel use to manage reservations and guests?
Here are some of the ones that I have seen:
- Paper reservation and accounting system
- Excel or OpenOffice spreadsheet
- roomMaster 2000
- Ros2000
- ASSD (including Gomio's version)
- Hostelworld's Backpack software
Any others to add? Recommendations or warnings about one system vs. another?

Hi All
Have been researching your discussions, desparately trying to find a system that works happily on Mac & Windows, integrates with online booking engines (HW etc).
Having signed up to 48 hr trial of HWs BMS- THREE MONTHS ago which never worked on Windows or Mac. Luckily, my hostel is quiet & small, so I'm managing to keep track with Outlook(!)
Obviously, NOT ideal as I'm off to KZN at year end! The guys here are busy withother businesses & desparately need one system. I've been listing them everywhere but! now have issues- which BMS can I use that integrates with the main big guns (HW etc), can be used on Facebook (I know Knightsbridge has an FB Book Now button) AND works happily with Mac & Windows?? (And not too pricey). Am absolutely desparate to help these guys succeed- any help or advice on which BMS would be best will be greatly appreciated- thanks!

FB book now button: Yes
Integrates with online booking engines: Not currently. (It's possible to manage bookings from other channels, but they must be registered manually. We're working on an integration with Expedia, expected to be completed within 3 months. Booking.com and HW will come after that.)

Hi Fat Pony. Good to see you are frustrated trying to find the right software for your hostel. I have been frustrated trying to get the message across that our www.hosteloffice.com software is guaranteed to increase the profit of a hostel far beyond the fee for using the software. Our software pours money it to the pockets of hostel owners and gives both managers and owners a lot more free time.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure I'm pleased that you think it's 'good to see I am frustrated' though, LOL!

What booking systems offer online payment system integration?
So far I've found sirvoy that costs $24.99 a month plus $4.99 for the payment system.
What booking systems have a feature for free text search for billable items such as food, drinks and tours?
